Flash Movie Review: Jurassic World
The clanking metal sound still reminded me of an anchor being pulled up ship. Looking over at the roller coaster I recalled how that first steep drop took my breath away; literally, I was so tensed up I forgot to breathe as we dropped into what felt like a free fall down the tracks. Today there would be no way I would go on that ride again. As I have gotten older I no longer find heights attractive. I did go on the virtual spaceship ride, noticing the seat seemed smaller with my knees now reaching the back of the seat in front of me. Though I still enjoyed the ride I knew now when to brace myself before the ship engaged in a pretend aerial dogfight in outer space. Walking through the amusement park that I had last visited years ago, I still enjoyed going on the rides and attractions. Some of the larger rides had been freshened up with new parts or simply just a coat of paint. There was one ride where the computer graphics finally looked futuristic compared to the ones they had previously. I think part of the fondness I still had for the park was the memories from my previous visits that accompanied me during the day. There was no need to run from ride to ride, I could take my time and be more selective since the surprise factor was gone for me. ย ย OVER twenty years have passed since the tragic ending to Jurassic Park. Updated and marketed to a new generation, Jurassic World park attendance had been strong. However market research had shown for the park to remain profitable it needed to come up with a bigger and better attraction to keep people coming back. Its newest attraction had something else in mind. This action adventure film had incredible special effects; the dinosaurs seemed like actual live creatures being filmed alongside the actors. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks and Recreation-TV) as Owen and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, The Village) as Claire were the main characters, both did a good job. I did not mind any of the actors to tell you the truth, even though the script did not give them any room to grow; they were pretty much two dimensional. If you are not familiar with Jurassic Park, then I believe you will get more out of this science fiction film than I did. I found it predictable, especially when some scenes were similar to ones in the previous movie. With that being said, there is no doubt in my mind that you will find this picture fun to watch and even exciting in parts. It was marketed to be a summer blockbuster and it will succeed. Wait a second, wasn’t that the same marketing idea the park had for their newest attraction?

Our whole family enjoyed this movie immensely in one of several theaters packed to the rafters. No, it’s not being asked to be taken as a serious Oscar contender. But, as a summer fun feast for the eyes, it does what it sets out to do…it entertains. :O)
I am so happy it was a fun experience for the whole family; very cool movie experience. Thanks for the comments.
It was just what a Friday evening at the movies should be. Great summer experience. :O)
I liked the first one the best. The others were disappointing. It might be worth seeing for the special effects–after the summer rush winds down.
Thanks.
Agree, wait until the crowds go down because this is the type of special effects movie that needs to be seen on the big screen.
Thanks. ๐
Woaa… Spielberg did it again! I love the creepy feeling (as the one I had more than 20 yrs. ago). From the flash movie I realize that the technique is indeed well advanced. I wont miss it ๐
PS. about amusement parks, shortly I was at Gardenland and I tried out every structure (some of them I wasn’t able to keep my eyes open) but as you tell, I guess I don’t have anymore the right age for these things.
have a lovely day ;-)c
Thank you for the comments and I admire your ability to go on all the rides at the amusement park. I would enjoy hearing your views after seeing this film.
I cannot really compare it to the classical Jurassic Park films, but it is indeed, a heart wrenching movie to watch as one would clench their teeth when the actions simply make your heart race! LOL
But it is fun! ๐
Thank you for the comments.
i really enjoyed this film i must say.. its one where you know whats gonna happen.. who is gonna be eaten.. and its fun just waiting to see how! loved it ๐
I am so happy you had a good time watching this film. Thanks for the comments.
My older three kids are desperate to see this because of a) Chris Pratt and b) dinosaurs but since the youngest would be scared we can’t go to the cinema to see it and will have to wait until it’s available for the small screen. It certainly looks better than the previous sequels.
The special effects were really something. Too bad the 3 older ones will have to wait until later.
Well if it sticks around in cinemas long enough then an opportunity might arise. Fingers crossed. ๐
For you and your family I am crossing my fingers, legs and eyes.
This movie was great! Anyone who loves the first should have no problem with this one. The CGI is well done. Really just one scene where it’s noticeable and took my mind out of it for a moment.
One of my worries was that it would over-embellish everything. Over the top score, over the top reveals, etc. That didn’t happen. The music perfectly assisted each scene and supported the emotional direction without dragging it forward. Details of the newly created Dino were given sparcly and only when the plot necessitated. It’s escape however was somewhat dumbfounding.
Most of my complaints center around characters and their agendas. Hoskins (D’Onofrio) seems entirely unnecessary as a cheap call-back to Wayne Knight’s scheming employee from JP. The scientist in charge of DNA mods also felt forcefully detached from the reality of his experimenting. Pratt delivered as we have come to expect from him. Bryce Dallas Howard got better once her character developed an emotional attachment toward her nephews. She also has one of the best screams in the biz today.
Terrific fun at the theater. Well worth a watch. Nice review sir!
So enjoyed reading your comments; you were right on with them. I loved especially your comments about Bryce because it was so true. This was a perfect summer fun movie; thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Well I am more chagrined at the fact that it has been 20 years since the first release, lol! That shows my age! My daughter absolutely loved this moving (16 years old). I’ll be watching it when I can, thanks!
I hope you can see it on the big screen because the dinosaurs look that real. Please let me know when you do, thanks.
I’ll have to convince the hubby to see it with me. I’m not one to go to a freezing movie theater alone. ๐ But I would LOVE to see it on the big screen. I’ll let you know if we do. We are headed to Portland, OR this weekend while our daughter attends an Ed Sheeran concert. (Some of my workmates do not know who that is!!!) That would be a good time to catch the movie while she’s at the concert.
Sounds like a plan and have a safe trip. I have fond memories of Portland when I visited it several years ago.
I saw this this weekend with my family. This movie was amazing, even after all these years since the third Jurassic Park movie. This movie had a lot of easter eggs/cameos from the first movie which added more fun spotting them in the movie.
I am so glad you and the family enjoyed this movie Matt. You are right, the cameos were very fun. Thank you for stopping by to share your comments.
It’s my pleasure.
Not being a donosaurian, I could care less about JW, but I am a Pratt and Dallas fan–maybe I will relent and see it in the theater.
Pratt was good but the script limited him a bit. If nothing else the special effects are good enough to see this film on the big screen. Thanks for the comments.
Ha–just watched him tonight in GG, again. Does he do more in JW than in GG, depth-wise?
I felt he did less.
Too bad. I hope his future roles won’t limit him. He has the makings of another Harrison Ford.
I understand he is on the top of the list for a Raiders of the Lost Ark reboot, time will tell. Thanks for the comments.
Very popular with the kids at our church.
From what I have been hearing, kids who haven’t seen Jurassic Park are enjoying this film a lot. Thanks for your comments.
I just remembered that I never returned to give my review of this movie having finally seen it. All six of us thought it was great fun and that it captured the fun of the first Jurassic Park movie. There were plot holes and bypasses of logic galore, of course, that even my 6 year old could point out but we were still swept away by the sheer silly fun and spectacle of it all and by Chris Pratt’s charisma. Mr Pict and I had a chat about it away from the kids and agreed that the movie read as partly as a pastiche of the summer blockbuster genre and of the earlier movies in the franchise with lots of nods and winks along the way. My kids did complain, however, that there were not enough dinosaur smackdowns throughout and that the finale was over and done with too quickly and I have to agree with them on that.
Thanks so much for sharing you and your family’s take on this film. I so enjoy how your how family articulates their thoughts is such a practical and real way. I bet going to the movies with all of you is high fun. Good job, if I ever need someone to fill in for me I know where to look.
We are big on discussion, debate and interpretation in our family. We always analyze and review movies as soon as we’ve watched them. My 9 year old is actually getting pretty adept at film studies.
It is so wonderful that you are contributing to future generations as you guide your children in the appreciation of film. Everyone thanks you.
Why thank you. I’m glad my nerdy parenting is appreciated.
