Oscar Predictions 2019
THE PAST YEAR HAS BEEN ONE of extremes and that includes the film industry. It seemed to me as if the movies I saw were either exceptionally good or horribly bad. There seemed to be less in the middle. The films that I felt were excellent were an absolute joy to experience; however, the ones that were at the other end of the spectrum were torturous at times. But, I want you to know I never left the movie early and for those times I felt I was about to fall asleep, I would shake my legs or pop mints into my mouth to stay awake. Nothing stopped me in my quest to see and review the latest films. Even during a blizzard, I drove to the theater, parked my car in the attached parking deck and went inside the theater to watch 3 pictures one right after another; I guess you can say I am dedicated or crazy. It was all worth it as we put a close on the past year with a final hooray as the Oscar awards are to be handed out this weekend. There are some close races that I had trouble deciding, but I am going to get through and share my thoughts with you. So with that being said, below are my choices for what I feel should get an award and what the academy will pick.

So, there you have it. If I do not win the pick pool I am okay with it. For me, it is all about the entertainment value. If a film can take me away from my reality and place me into its, then it has won in my books. Have a happy and joyous Oscar time to you and yours.

I love your picks and am amazed how you agree with me on so many of last year’s movies. Plus I had no idea you watched 3 movies at a time and trekked through blizzards to get there lol!
Thank you for your wonderful reviews and your passionate dedication to this blog. It is very much enjoyed and I continue to share about it with my friends. I made sure to be able to watch the Oscars this year with a friend (I don’t own a TV.) I am looking forward to it and my guess is that you did an excellent job predicting those awards. 🙂
There was a time when I would also be sure to watch all the Oscar nominated movies ahead of the Academy Awards. That was before kids and back when cinema tickets were much cheaper. I miss that tradition, however, and will pick it up again in future. My new tradition is to draw the acting nominees in my art journal and I just finished this year’s illustrations. This year is the first year in which I have seen not a single one of the movies in the major categories. My kids have actually seen more of the nominees in broader categories than I have since they saw ‘Into the Spiderverse’ and I did not. I, therefore, have no predictions to make except that I think it might be possible that Spike Lee gets it as a “body of work” sort of nod.
Hi Laura, I hope you do pick up the tradition again. With some of the films coming out in other mediums and for limited release, I could not catch all of the nominated films; this is why I did not have more categories.
Thank you for the comments.
