Flash Movie Review: Tracks
Imagine if every cellular, radio and other invisible electronic pulses each had a distinctive color we could see; we would all be walking through a brightly hued fog in our daily lives. It seems as if the separation between man and machine has narrowed over time. What with the passwords, computer screens, key strokes, computer glasses, ear buds, tablets, smart phones and computer watches; no wonder we need to unplug once in a while. One of the ways I unplug is to visit a national park. I do not know if it is true but I had heard the United States is the only country that has a national park system, where the lands are protected to avoid any harm at the hands of mankind. There is nothing like walking along a tree covered trail where suddenly the trees momentarily part to reveal a tall, tumbling waterfall with a veil of trailing mist; it is a breathtaking yet peaceful sight to me. Seated at the rim of a deep canyon, where violent weather had mauled its walls while the setting sun casts its bright eye on slow moving dark shadows, provides me endless battery free entertainment. What I tell the members in my yoga class applies to me as well when I am visiting various parks, let the mind soften and release all the should do’s, have to do’s and supposed to do’s; so I can be in the moment and let my whole body relax. Â Â ALONE except for 4 camels and her dog, Robyn Davidson, played by Mia Wasikowska (Albert Nobbs, Only Lovers Left Alive), decided she needed to walk. Her walk if successful would cover nearly 2000 miles of western Australian arid and deserted lands, taking her all the way to the Indian Ocean. This film festival nominated movie was based on the true story of Robyn’s sojourn that was turned into a bestselling book. The scenes of Australia with their wide expanses were beautiful; it really made me yearn to see the country. Mia was excellent playing Robyn, showing equal sides of vulnerability, strength and courage. Adam Driver (This is Where I Leave You, Girls-TV) as National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan started out as a minor interest for me; however, as the film progressed his acting brought out a truthful and real side to his character. Be prepared for this film took its time to stroll out the story and especially for animal lovers, there were a couple of scenes that were hard to watch. My methods of unplugging may pale by comparison to Robyn’s, but after watching this picture with its incredible story, I felt as if I had been unplugged in a whole new way.

With a cell phone in my pocket I always have a feel of being tied up with invisible strings…and I do get a quick dose of freedom if I forget to take it while going out.
You have beautifully put your view on EM radiation around us with the sentence “we would all be walking through a brightly hued fog in our daily lives”, just perfect 🙂
After reading this review I can’t really wait to watch this movie.
Thank you so much for one more good suggestion, have a beautiful day ahead 🙂
I truly appreciate your kind words; so sweet and thoughtful of you. I hope you get to see this film and would enjoy hearing your thoughts. Thank you.
I watched this movie yesterday and really enjoyed it.
The acting of Mia was top class.
Let me check out your last post on “Gone Girl” 🙂
She really made the movie and I am so glad you got the chance to see this film. It is only playing at a couple of theaters in my area. Thanks for your comments.
Hi MJ, I know this is a movie from last year, but I’ve been checking through your reviews to find gems on Netflix. I agree with your review – Mia made the movie. The Adam Driver character was annoying at first, but became more human as it went on. The only thing that wasn’t addressed was why she went on the journey in the first place. Also wondering: is there a way to sort on your site by # of stars and whether it’s available on Netflix? Thanks as ever, for “screening” out the chaff from the wheat for me! Take care, Ruth
Hi Ruth, I think a friend of mine uses a general search engine to enter “moviejoltz 4 stars” or something similar to that and they come out. Otherwise, I do not know of a way. Also, I do not list Netflix, only DVD as the means I had to see the film. I’m so glad I can help direct you by saving you time and money. Thank you so much.
Oh, that’s a good idea. I didn’t think to check with a search engine. Thanks for that, and for all these great reviews. It’s like a map to the stars, really. You show us where the good stuff is.
You are too kind, thank you so much.
